Omli Kids app for children

Omli Kids is India's first learning platform designed to help children aged 3–10 think and speak better. Since launching, we have heard the same questions from thousands of Indian parents - so we have answered them all in one place, as clearly as we can.

What is Omli Kids and how does it work?

Omli Kids is a mobile app for children aged 3 to 10 that uses adaptive regular conversations to build thinking and speaking skills. The app's learning facilitator, Doro, talks with your child the way a thoughtful adult would - asking questions, following their interests, telling stories, and gently stretching their language and reasoning abilities through daily interaction.

Unlike apps that test children on fixed content, Omli Kids adapts in real time to what your child is interested in, what they already know, and where they need a little more practice. There are no right or wrong answers, no scores, and no pressure.

What age group is Omli Kids designed for?

The app is built for children aged 3 to 10. Within that range, it adapts significantly:

  • Ages 3–5: Short, playful conversations around stories, animals, and everyday objects. The focus is vocabulary, confidence, and the habit of speaking.
  • Ages 5–7: Longer interactions that introduce reasoning, imagination, and early questioning skills.
  • Ages 7–10: More complex discussions that develop argumentation, perspective-taking, and expressive language for various social contexts.

Is the app safe for young children?

Yes. Omli Kids was designed with child safety as a foundational requirement, not an afterthought. Specifically:

  • The conversations are designed to maintain age-appropriate conversation at all times
  • There is no social or community component - your child interacts only with the learning facilitator Doro
  • The app does not collect unnecessary personal data from children

We rate the app 4+ and it has passed review standards on both Apple App Store and Google Play.

Does Omli Kids work without an internet connection?

An internet connection is required for the conversations to function, as the adaptive responses are processed in real time. We recommend using the app on a stable Wi-Fi connection for the best experience. We are developing offline features for future versions.

Is the app free or paid?

Omli Kids can be downloaded for free from both the App Store and Google Play. The free version gives the first free conversation. Premium features via subscription offer courses with extended conversation sessions and more detailed progress insights. Pricing is listed within the app.

What devices and platforms is Omli Kids available on?

  • iOS: Available on iPhone and iPad (iOS 13 and above)
  • Android: Available on Android phones and tablets (Android 8.0 and above)

What language does Omli Kids use?

The current version of Omli Kids operates primarily in English & Hindi, making it an effective tool for building speaking and thinking skills. We are actively developing regional language support, which will be released in future updates.

Does my child need to know how to read to use Omli Kids?

No. The app is designed for spoken interaction - your child listens and speaks rather than reading text on a screen. This makes it accessible from age 3 and suitable for pre-literate children throughout the 3–5 age range.

How is Omli Kids different from other learning apps?

Most learning apps follow a fixed curriculum and test children on specific knowledge. Omli Kids is different in three ways:

  1. Conversation-first. Omli Kids focuses on speaking and thinking, not on reading, writing, or subject knowledge. It complements academic apps rather than competing with them.
  2. Adaptive interaction. Rather than presenting fixed content, Doro responds to what your child says and adapts accordingly - more like a conversation than a lesson.
  3. No performance pressure. There are no scores, no stars, no failure states. The design philosophy is that children learn language best when they feel safe and engaged, not evaluated. However, we do provide progress reports that give insights into what the child learnt throughout the conversation - including summaries and parent activities.

How many minutes a day should my child use the app?

We recommend 10–15 minutes per day for children aged 3–5, and up to 20 minutes for children aged 5–10. Short, consistent daily sessions produce better outcomes than occasional long sessions - this is consistent with how language learning works in general. The app is designed to be engaging enough that children ask to use it, without being stimulating enough to become addictive.

Can Omli Kids help a child with a speech delay?

Omli Kids is not a speech therapy tool and should not replace professional evaluation or treatment for a child with a diagnosed speech or language delay. However, for children who are within the typical range but on the quieter end, or who need more low-pressure speaking practice, the app's daily conversational interaction can be a helpful supplement to other language support.

If you have concerns about your child's speech or language development, we always recommend consulting a qualified speech-language pathologist in addition to any app-based support.

Frequently asked questions

Is the free version limited?
The free version gives access to the first free conversation. Premium features via subscription offer courses with extended conversation sessions and more detailed progress insights. Pricing is listed within the app.
Can more than one child in a family use the same account?
We recommend separate profiles for each child to ensure Doro adapts appropriately to each child's age and language level. Multiple profiles can be managed from a single parent account.
Is Omli Kids suitable for children who are shy or reluctant to speak?
It is particularly well-suited for them. Doro does not judge, does not correct harshly, and does not move on until the child is ready. Many parents report that quiet children speak more freely with Doro than they do in group settings - and that the confidence gained carries over into real-world conversations.
Is there a parent dashboard or progress tracking?
Yes. Parents receive progress reports with insights into what the child learnt throughout each conversation - including summaries and suggested parent activities to reinforce the learning at home.
